Half-Caff Coffee: The Perfect Balance of Flavor and Caffeine
Half-caff coffee is a 50/50 blend of regular and decaf coffee, offering about half the caffeine content of a typical cup of regular coffee. An 8 oz (236 ml) cup of half-caff contains around 50 mg of caffeine, compared to 95 mg in regular coffee and just 2 mg in decaf.
This blend provides a smoother and less bitter taste, as caffeine is a contributor to coffee’s bitterness. For those looking to reduce caffeine intake while still enjoying the rich flavor of coffee, half-caff is an excellent option.

Swiss Water Process
The water process of decaffeination, often called the Swiss Water Process (SWP) or Mountain Water Process, is a chemical-free method that removes caffeine from coffee beans while preserving their flavor. Here's how it works:
1. Soaking the Beans
Green (unroasted) coffee beans are soaked in hot water to dissolve the caffeine and flavor compounds.
2. Creating a Green Coffee Extract (GCE)
The water from the first batch of beans is passed through an activated charcoal filter that removes only the caffeine while keeping the coffee's natural oils and flavor compounds.
This caffeine-free liquid is called Green Coffee Extract (GCE).
3. Caffeine Removal from New Beans
A fresh batch of green coffee beans is then soaked in the GCE.
Since the extract already contains coffee flavors, only the caffeine is removed while the beans retain their original taste.
4. Drying & Roasting
The decaffeinated beans are dried back to their normal moisture content and then roasted like regular coffee.
This process is 100% chemical-free and preferred by specialty coffee brands because it preserves the coffee’s natural taste and aroma.
